Part 3 The anchor leaves the environment. Jessica acting as the protective variable exits with a threat of physical violence against the parasitic ex-boyfriend.

Lena opens the thread with Adrien Voss. Her thumb hovers over the block button, but the compulsion overrides it. She answers the call.

The voice on the other end is a masterclass in psychological manipulation. Low, measured, completely devoid of anxiety. “Good morning, Lena.”

He casually reveals he knows she was researching him at 3:00 in the morning. Lena attempts to label him, calling him a mafia boss. He easily deflects, reframing his identity as a mere businessman with a memorable surname.

“Look out the kitchen window.” A black sedan idled menacingly on her quiet street.

He gives her explicit permission to sever contact, assuring her he will maintain the protective perimeter for 3 days regardless. Then he initiates the disconnect.

The ex-boyfriend transmits a desperate plea demanding a 10-minute physical encounter. Lena transmits her entire itinerary to the megalomaniac.

The lesser parasite arrives 8 minutes past the established boundary. He attempts unauthorized physical contact. She instantly retracts.

A hand descended onto Marcus’s shoulder. “Sir, let go of the lady’s arm.” Adrien Voss stood directly behind his chair.

“Mr. Bell. Stand up.” Marcus complied immediately, his autonomy stripped away in seconds. Adrien systematically delivered his directives. Marcus walked out, utterly broken, and never looked back.

“Are you all right?” Adrien inquired. Four red abrasions were already forming on her wrist.

He offered to walk her home, giving his word he would attempt nothing more. They proceeded in silence for two blocks.

“I do not want anything from you.” He systematically listed his non-demands. No dates, no physical intimacy, no debts owed.

Upon arrival, he issued three strict commands. Go inside, lock the door, and sleep.

A message illuminated the screen. “I forgot to ask, Did you eat today?” A paper bag rested outside her door containing a turkey sandwich.

Jessica returned, grocery bag in hand. “You told me you blocked him.” “I lied to you.”

Jessica asked the piercing question. “Do you like him?” Lena hesitated. “I do not know. There is an inexplicable draw.”

Jessica outlined the safety protocol: Public, daylight, vetted locations, constant reporting.

Adrien remained completely silent for three entire days. On the fourth evening, the device buzzed. “How are you, Lena?”

They met at the Lexington location with Jessica present. Jessica interrogated him fiercely. Adrien answered with chilling precision.

He announces a sudden 5-day departure. He gives her a small white card with 10 digits for emergencies.

At precisely 6:14 in the morning, her phone rings. Adrien is injured. Lena obeys the commands and is taken to the safe house.

She sits on the bed and takes his hand. He attempts to push her away, but she refuses to leave.

Lena embeds herself in his environment for 48 hours. Jessica concedes and offers blind loyalty.

Three weeks elapse. An unidentified male intercepts Lena on the sidewalk and issues threats against her mother.

Lena rushes to Adrien. He dictates her relocation to Baltimore. She confesses her loyalty.

One year later, Lena stands in a luxury high rise wearing a bespoke ring. The black sedan is always on the street. She confirms she is home, warmly interpreting his perpetual surveillance as true love.
